Urban Homesteader Day of Hot, Hot Video Action

Today is another Urban Homesteader Day of Action, but this time it’s not just words, people! We’re taking our radical message of homegrown zucchini and backyard poultry to YouTube.

My contribution (and my first ever video, so be nice, okay?) is a discussion and cook-up of that maligned and under-appreciated vegetable, the brussels sprout. Come join me as I harvest my sprouts and then turn them into a delicious side dish: Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Apple Cider Vinegar.

That smoked garlic recipe I promise on the video is coming. I’ll post it soon.

If you’ve got a minute, You can see what my fellow urban homesteaders are talking about here.  Happy Urban Homesteader’s Day of Action, and enjoy your sprouts.

  1. That looks amazingly yummy! Great job on the video.

  2. Look at you, all fancy n shit! One of our favorite meals – pot roast, smashed taters and roasted sprouts. Everyone who tries it is a sprout convert.

My sprouts were host to some hungry green caterpillars last spring – very sad. Had to keep picking them off and I sprayed them with soapy water – not sure if that was the right thing to do, but I did manage to harvest a few!

  3. Great video, I especially love how your little one got into the act and was so peaceful. Having tried nearly the same recipie last year, I really should plant them. I think they're a fall crop. I'll look into it.

I must say I am so glad to see real chefs actually season things, not like the ones on TV where they use a pinch of salt and one grind of pepper. If I can't see the pepper, I can't taste it.

Can I say your kitchen is amazing? I wanted to mention it with the cast iron post. I covet your stove top!

    Great video, thanks for sharing!

  4. Mmmmmm that looked damn good! I loved your video! You are great in front of the camera! Plus, you have a nice kitchen, a cute kid, and a husband that seems as though he is a heavy breather… I think I heard him whilst he was filming you in the garden!

  5. Holy crab cakes, that looks AMAZING. Great job on your first video, you looked like a natural. :)

  6. More videos please! You rock!
